Instructions

  1. Step 1: Crush the Cardamom — Using the side of a knife or a mortar and pestle, gently crush the cardamom pods just enough to expose the seeds without breaking them apart too finely.
  2. Step 2: Combine Sugar and Water — In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water and sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar fully dissolves—about 2–3 minutes. Do not let it boil.
  3. Step 3: Add Cardamom and Simmer — Add the crushed cardamom pods to the pan. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  4. Step 4: Let It Steep — Remove the saucepan from heat. Cover and let the syrup steep for 20–30 minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger the cardamom flavor.
  5. Step 5: Strain and Store — Strain the syrup into a glass jar or bottle through a fine mesh sieve to remove the pods. Let it cool completely before sealing with a lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
